The NBYC "Youth Activity Program" is open to members and grandchildren of members.
This program encourages children to spend a few hours outdoors at NBYC in a supervised group environment.
We are pleased to announce the return of last year's instructors for 2017:
Ms. Catherine Guanci
Has been sailing for 8 yrs. She started in Optis and has been sailing 420s on the NBYC race team for 5 summers.
She has been a Jr Sailing instructor for 3 summers. Catherine did a fantastic job last summer exposing the kids to basic sailing and kayaking skills.
Ms. Ugne Kirvelevicius
Has been swimming on a team since eighth grade and was captain of the East Lyme High School Swim Team. She participated in
crew and rowed all four years of high school. Ugne has taught swim lessons at the East Lyme Aquatics Center for 5 yrs.
She has worked with kids ranging in age from 3 to 13 year of age. She is currently a college student at UCONN.
Ugne was instrumental last summer getting the kids "in the water" almost daily.
She provided a full range of individual and group swim instruction.
The Youth Activity Program will run (Monday—Friday) in two-week sessions beginning on June 26th.
We will be offering this program in (2) Age Groups. This allows instructors to plan for age appropriate lessons and activities.
Junior Group: (Age 4—7), 11:00 am—12:00 pm
Senior Group: (Age 8—12), 12:30 pm—2:00 pm
Program activities will include the following:
Intro to Sailing (parts of the boat, rigging, wind direction, etc.)
Group Swimming Instruction (focus on stroke development)
Water activities including kayaking, surf boarding, kick boarding
Water Safety Lessons from beach, dock or raft (use of rescue buoy)
Supervised Boat Rides (with parental consent)
Beach Sports and Rainy Day projects
Daily Sailing Instruction or Swim Instruction based on weatherconditions.
